Speak Jet to hell and back
by Moogle on Oct.24, 2010, under Arduino / AVR, Electronics
It started off as a simple Speak Jet chip… Then I added it to my Antimov robot for the sparkfun competition…
This is all that remained of the arduino pro and the SpeakJet board I made after the fire.
The SpeakJet chip was fused to the board and required a bit of force to remove it. This resulted in the chip cracking and one of the pins falling off.
The chip was badly damaged so I see this as a challenge to see if the chip still functions properly :)
I epoxied the chip to keep the crack in it from becoming larger and very very carefully used a small file to get some copper exposed that i could solder a new pin to.
I still want to try the Atmel 328p from the arduino pro to see if it functions too :)
Update:
both chips were dead. Speak Jet chip just became very hot when power was applied, The Atmel 328p wont show up avr dude with external crystal attached.

Hello, I live in Nashville. At age 70 I thought I would learn how to use a MCU. I bought a Arduino and ethernet board. And downloaded lots of stuff, which does not work as stated. I am determined to learn this stuff but am going to need real help. If you are local, could you suggest a local group or an approach that does not include two year old data. My cell is (number removed)
Thanks for your site and your time, Larry
